Joanne Synge

Principal

As Principal of Horahora School, my goal is for every student to reach their full potential in a safe, supportive environment, where we embrace difference and look to ensure every student is at the centre so that learning for them is a positive, successful experience.

I enjoy teaching all aspects of the curriculum and of late, have enjoyed extending my knowledge of Te Reo and Matauranga Maaori.

I have a strong connection to Horahora as I lived within the district with my husband and family for almost 20 years. We raised 3 children here, who spent their primary school years at Horahora School.

I have been a teacher at Horahora since 1999, teaching a variety of age groups and became a Sole Charge Principal in 2015, when our school's roll dropped to 17 students. We are now a thriving 3 teacher school with over 40 students and we look to a positive future for our school.

I have a strong interest in taking care of our environment and enjoy all things in nature - walking, biking, and exploring. My other interests include my family, patchwork and quilting.
