ABSENCES
If your child is going to be absent we ask you to let the school know by 9.00am. You can do this by ringing the school office on 07 827 2823, via the Skool Loop app, email or website .
Please ensure you give us a reason for the absence – it is a Ministry of Education requirement that we keep a record of all students’ attendance and absences.
If we do not get a reported absence for a student, we will send a text to the first primary caregiver.
Please note, if your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea they are required to stay away from school for 48 hours following their last symptoms.
ASSEMBLIES
Assemblies are held twice a term. Details of time and location will be sent out early in the term. Parents and caregivers are most welcome to attend.
ACCIDENTS & FIRST AID
Our office staff and teachers are trained in first aid. Minor accidents are typically treated in the school sick bay. However, parents or caregivers will be contacted immediately for more serious injuries, particularly those involving a child's head.
If your child requires medication to be administered at school, please complete the necessary medical form. Ensure all medication is clearly labeled with your child's name and the specific medication and dosage. The medication will be securely stored in our locked medicine cabinet and dispensed as directed by the medical form.
BUS
A bus is available - please contact Ash in the office to see if your child is eligible for the bus.
Students, and parents must sign a Bus Transport Code of Conduct form to travel on the bus. Bus Code of Conduct Form
There are Bus Monitors (senior students) on the bus, who have been trained by the Police Education community officer. All students on the bus must comply with directions from these students.
CONSULTATION & COMMUNICATION
The school’s staff are available to talk with you if you have any questions or concerns. We promote open communication with our school community, and where possible, prefer to sort things as soon as possible.
The best time to talk to teachers is before or after school. If you need to speak for more than 5 minutes, then please arrange a mutually agreeable meeting time.
For classroom-related matters, your first point of contact should be your child's teacher.
COMMUNICATION
Our school has several forms of communication with parents, caregivers and the community. These include:
HOUSE GROUPS
At Hora Hora School, we have four house groups. Each student will be assigned to a house upon enrolment.
Students will earn points for their house by consistently demonstrating our school values and for their participation in school sporting events such as triathlons, cross-country, and swimming sports. Points will also be awarded during our termly house events.
Students are encouraged to wear their house colours while participating in school sporting events and during house activities.
House shields will be designed by Senior Students as part of one of the first House Challenges of 2025.
INTERNET
The Internet is available in all classrooms under strict supervision by the teacher and in accordance with our school internet policy. Please refer to the Digital Technologies code of conduct for the terms of use.
Internet Safety
LOST PROPERTY
Please ensure that ALL student clothing is named. Unclaimed clothing is kept at school in the lost property container. Any lost property remaining at the end of each term is donated to charity.
PHONES
Phones are not needed during the school day. If your child needs to bring their phone to school, they must be kept in their bag and not used during the school day.
For students travelling on the bus, it is expected that their phones remain in their bags until they disembark.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
Hora Hora School highly values and encourages parent involvement. We welcome the active participation of parents in various aspects of school life.
Community contribution to sports days, open evenings, learning displays, educational excursions, fundraising initiatives, and other activities throughout the year is what makes Hora Hora such a special place to be.
POLICE VETTING
If you wish to attend school trips and/or camps, in line with the school policy and the Vulnerable Children’s Act, you will need to be police checked. Please assist us by completing a form and returning it with two forms of identification to the school office. Vetting must be submitted at least eight weeks prior to the camp or trip.
The form and user guide can be found below.
PTA
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is made up of Hora Hora whānau and staff who organise fundraising events throughout the year, with all money raised going back to the school. It's also a great way to find out what’s happening at the school and meet other parents.
Meetings are held once a term and we always love seeing new faces, with fresh ideas. Keep an eye on the school Facebook Page for meeting dates and upcoming events.
RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION
A Board approved Religious Instruction Programme, Launchpad is an opt in programme at Horahora School. Children not attending Religious Instruction are supervised by a teacher.
SMOKEFREE
Hora Hora School is a Smokefree school. Smoking and vaping are not permitted in the school grounds or buildings at any time. This includes events, camps and outings associated with the school.
STATIONERY
Children will be issued with a list of their stationery requirements on enrolment and at the end of each school year.
Children can get stationery they need from the office and accounts are sent home to parents monthly.
SUNSAFETY
As a sun smart school we must ensure that if children do not bring a hat, then a “no hat then play in the shade” policy is enforced. Please ensure your child has their hat each day in terms one and four.
Sunhats (full brimmed) may be brought from home or a uniform hat may be purchased from the school office at a cost of $15.
Sunscreen is also available to children while at school.
TECHNOLOGY
We have 1-to-1 devices in the Middle and Senior School. We understand the importance of students becoming proficient users of digital technologies and more importantly, creators of digital solutions.
TRANSITION
We value the importance of a smooth transition into school for our New Entrant students. Therefore, we open up our Junior classroom for our incoming students and will work with each family to support a successful start to school. Contact the office for more information about this.
TREES
We are a Tree Climbing School. When you enrol your child at Hora Hora School, you will receive our Tree Climbing Policy, which you need to sign and return to school. There are specific climbing trees around the field that have painted blue lines, to signify to what height they can be climbed.
UNIFORM
There is no uniform at Hora Hora School. However, students may purchase a school sunhat if they wish. These are available at the school office at a cost of $15.
We have a uniform polo shirt, used for EOTC. These will be issued to students. Please ensure these are washed and returned, upon use.
Please name all uniform and non-uniform items so that misplaced items can be returned.
