Hora Hora School Learning Tree

To have the self-confidence to make a difference to my world

Our Hora Hora curriculum is unique to us. It is responsive to the needs, priorities and aspirations of our Hora Hora School community. We are dedicated to providing a comprehensive and enriching curriculum that aligns with Te Mātaiaho (the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum). Our teachers are enthusiastic about the opportunities for student success presented by the refreshed curriculum and have been actively engaged in professional development to enhance their curriculum knowledge and understanding.

English: We foster a love of language through rich and engaging learning experiences. Students develop strong communication skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The curriculum emphasises critical thinking, creativity, and cultural responsiveness, ensuring students can confidently navigate the complexities of the English language in a diverse and interconnected world. Our school-wide Structured Literacy programme utilises the iDeal Approach.

Mathematics: We provide a dynamic and engaging mathematics programme (supported by PR1ME) that empowers students to become confident and capable mathematical thinkers. Our focus is on developing deep conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude towards mathematics. Students explore real-world applications of mathematics and develop the ability to use mathematical reasoning to make informed decisions.

Science: We nurture curiosity and a sense of wonder about the natural world. Students actively engage in scientific inquiry, conducting investigations, collecting and analysing data, and developing explanations for phenomena. We emphasise the importance of science in addressing local and global challenges, fostering responsible citizenship and a sustainable future.

Social Sciences/Aotearoa New Zealand Histories: We provide students with a deep understanding of Aotearoa New Zealand's unique history, cultures, and societies. Students explore key concepts such as identity, citizenship, and change, developing a critical understanding of the past and its impact on the present. We value diverse perspectives and encourage students to become active and informed citizens.

The Arts: We foster creativity, imagination, and self-expression through a diverse range of arts experiences. Students explore visual arts, music, drama, and dance, developing their artistic skills and understanding of different art forms. The arts curriculum emphasises cultural responsiveness and encourages students to share their unique voices and perspectives with the world.

Technology: We equip students with the digital literacy skills they need to thrive in an increasingly technological world. Students learn to use digital technologies creatively, critically, and safely. We focus on developing computational thinking, problem-solving, and designing and developing digital solutions, preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.

Health and Physical Education: We prioritise the well-being of our students by providing opportunities for physical activity, healthy living, and the development of essential life skills. Students participate in a variety of physical activities, learn about healthy lifestyles, and develop the knowledge and skills to make informed choices about their health and well-being.
